Just for Today

Daily meditation from May 9st as an audio file:

9. May
Write about it!
9. May
>> We sit down with our notepad, ask for guidance, take our pen and start writing. <
Basic Text, p. 37

When we are confused or in pain, our sponsor sometimes tells us, “Write about it.” Although we may groan as we dig out our notepad, we know it will help. By putting everything on paper, we give ourselves the opportunity to sort out what is bothering us. We know that through writing we can get to the bottom of our confusion and discover what is really causing our pain.

Writing can be worthwhile, especially if we work the steps. Many members keep a diary. Simply thinking about the steps, weighing their importance, and analyzing their implications is not enough for most of us. There is something about the physical act of writing that helps ingrain the principles of recovery in our minds and hearts.

The rewards we gain from the simple act of writing are many. Mental clarity, keys to closed places inside us and the voice of conscience are just a few of them. Writing helps us be honest with ourselves. We sit down, calm our thoughts and listen to our hearts. What we hear in the silence are the truths we put on paper.

Only for today: Writing is one of the ways to seek truth in recovery. I will be writing about my recovery today.
